For members of Our Shades of Blue, success stories often reflect dedication, service, and perseverance. Few stories capture that spirit more powerfully than that of Victor Glover.
A Shades of Blue member since 2005, Glover’s journey from student to astronaut is not only inspiring, it is deeply personal to this community. He attended high school and junior college alongside Captain Willie Daniels, now President of Shades of Blue, creating a connection that makes this milestone even more meaningful.
A Career Built on Excellence
Victor Glover’s path to space began with a strong academic and military foundation. A graduate of California Polytechnic State University, he later became a U.S. Navy aviator and test pilot. Over the course of his military career, he logged thousands of flight hours and earned a reputation for leadership and precision.
In 2013, Glover was selected as a NASA astronaut, joining one of the most elite groups of explorers in the world. He previously served as a pilot on SpaceX Crew-1, where he made history as the first Black astronaut to live aboard the International Space Station for an extended mission.
Artemis II: A Historic Return to the Moon
Now, Glover is experiencing of the most significant missions of our time: Artemis II.
This mission marks NASA’s first crewed journey toward the Moon in more than 50 years since the era of Apollo Program. Artemis II sent four astronauts on a 10-day mission aboard the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft, traveling around the far side of the Moon and back to Earth.
Glover will serve as the pilot, alongside Commander Reid Wiseman, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.
The significance of Artemis II cannot be overstated. It represents a major step toward establishing a sustained human presence on the Moon and eventually sending astronauts to Mars. As highlighted in recent coverage by CNN, Glover’s participation also marks a historic moment in expanding representation in deep space exploration.
A Proud Connection to Shades of Blue
For Shades of Blue, Glover’s achievements are a source of immense pride. His long-standing membership and personal connection to Captain Willie Daniels reflect the organization’s commitment to supporting individuals who go on to make a meaningful impact.
His journey is a reminder that greatness often begins in familiar places, among peers, mentors, and communities that encourage growth and resilience.
