Welcome back to the Shades of Blue blog site. This blog is an important part of our efforts to connect and promote Shades of Blue with the broader community. Shades of Blue also wants to thank the Shades of Blue founder and President Willie Daniels for being a speaker at the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) national diversity conference, which was held June 8-10 in Denver.
The AMAC is a non-profit which has a goal to eliminate barriers for people of color and women to receive airport contracts and employment opportunities. Captain Daniels was able talk about Shades of Blues efforts to educate and mentor diverse youths for openings created in the aviation industry as current Baby Boomers retire. Shades of Blue is expanding in California and Georgia as we speak. We currently are mentoring youth throughout Colorado. Please continue to check the Shades of Blue website to follow the numerous efforts scheduled for this summer and fall. The actions span from California to Denver and Denver to Georgia. A summer camp named Project SOAR sponsored by Denver Housing Authority of Metropolitan State University and Shades of Blue will be held Monday July 14, 2014 through Friday July 18, 2014. Shades of Blue member(s) discounts are available. If you are a middle school student or high school student and you dream about space travel and/or a career in aviation please contact Jenna Lin 303-394-3194 mathpioneers@yahoo.com . During the camp students will also build and launch rockets as part of the camp curriculum.
Thank you for your continued support of Shades of Blue as we expand our efforts to reach more students. We also want to thank Captain Daniels for his presentation at the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) diversity conference. Our next few blogs will provide more details regarding our California efforts as well as our new initiatives in Georgia.
Respectfully,
Andre
