SUMMARY:Annual Gala Dinner at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science
DESCRIPTION:As our current aerospace and aviation workforce ages and retires\, our country is headed for a severe deficit of American professionals to continue our future aviation\, space and other scientific programs. If we desire to continue to lead the world in this area\, America needs more students in the fields of aviation and aerospace: engineers\, astronauts\, pilots\, educators\, scientists\, mathematicians\, and fields of medicine. By getting our youngsters involved in their own futures early in their school years\, they are given alternatives to the drug and gang infested lifestyles too common in many neighborhoods. To this end\, our organization needs your support and good will\, and your financial assistance in providing these alternatives. We cannot do it all by ourselves! We cannot -we will not – forget our children! \nThe Shades of Blue organization and its loyal sponsors will host the 2014 Annual Gala Dinner at Denver’s Museum of Nature & Science\, 2001 Colorado Blvd.\, Denver. CO. This museum is one of only 750 out of a total of 16\,000 museums nationwide to be awarded accreditation by the American Association of Museums. This Event\, set in the beautiful atrium of the Museum\, takes place on September 20th\, 2014. \nAt the dinner ceremony\, as in the past\, we will appropriately honor educators and members of the scientific and aero-space communities ( e.g. pilots\, astronauts\, corporate officials\, and Shades of Blue members) for their demonstrated ex-ceptional support to students during the past year. This year’s Honored Guest is a BIG SURPRISE \, to be honored for his contribution to the education of Denver’s school students. \nDuring this special fun-filled and informative night\, the Museum will open several displays and “hands-on” uniquescientific and historical exhibits to those who attend. “Kids” from six to a hundred will be able to fulfill their “astronaut” dreams and tour this exciting collection nature and space oriented exhibits. Doors will open at 6:00 pm allowing time to visit many of the hands-on educational exhibits loved by students and adults alike. Our 2014 SHADES OF BLUE Ed Dwight Jr. Awards and Corporate Recognition Awards follow dinner. The evening will conclude at 10:00 pm. Tickets are just $125 per person for all this! \nCorporations may purchase any one of several levels of support\, reserving full tables for their employees and executives\, and participating in the underwriting of our event. Shades of Blue will publically acknowledge Corporate Sponsors for their support\, adding to their corporate pride of doing what is needed\, at a time when it is desperately needed. Rates are on the accompanying RSVP flyer. \nPlease join us. Your valued investment in time and resources is essential in helping us maintain America’s current and future lead in aerospace and aviation. Together we will assure that our students will be ready to assume leadership in the most critical tough\, demanding\, and rewarding fields well into the 21st century. After all\, it is OUR future we hold in our hands. \nWe will have 20 active students and Air Force Academy Cadets attending as our guests. If you cannot attend\, pleaseconsider sponsoring these honored invitees. Your contribution of $125 per dinner will cover these costs. Perhaps you could sponsor several? \nJust look around you. Just look! \nTHEY are our children. THEY are our future. THEY need our help. America needs their help. \nWe hope you join us as a Co-op Sponsor and supporter. Please contact us for additional information and reservations. \nSincerely\, \nWillie Daniels\, IIFounder\, President(303) 549-6204

SUMMARY:Engineering Workshop at Littleton HS
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in engineering\, applied technology\, or the aerospace industry? If so\, consider registering NOW for a series of workshops coming to Littleton High School this fall. \n“Shades of Blue” is a local non-profit dedicated to providing STEM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering and Math) education to Colorado students. \nWe are bringing a nine-day Saturday morning workshop to Littleton High School this fall. Each Saturday morning features a different presenter\, coupled with a hands-on activity. Presenters come from a wide array of fields within engineering. Some of the presenters come to us from the private sector (including Raytheon\, Boeing\, United Launch Alliance\, Lockheed Martin)\, while others come from positions in NASA\, and branches of the military.\nThis workshop series received great feedback when it was offered to Aurora Public Schools\, and was featured in the Denver Post. We are excited to bring it to LPS students! \nWorkshops begin on Saturday\, August 24th\, at 10 a.m.\nNOTE: The workshops are FREE\, but STUDENTS MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE. Please sign up at:

SUMMARY:The ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camps
DESCRIPTION:The ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camps (EMBHSSC) are 10-day residential camps hosted at colleges and universities across the nation. In June 2014\, The Harris Foundation (THF)\, in partnership with the ExxonMobil Foundation\, will sponsor a camp on the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. This camp will provide 48 promising middle school grade level students the opportunity to enhance their proficiency in Science\, Technology\, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education while living 10 days on a college campus – all at no cost to the child or family. \nCamp ThemeThe successful landing of the NASA Mars Rover Curiosity has captured the nation’s attention and provides an excellent opportunity to stimulate student interest in STEM careers. Students in this camp will use science\, technology\, engineering\, and math to understand the daunting challenges that the Curiosity engineering team overcame to achieve the greatest technological feat of the 21st century. Students will also understand the engineering challenges involved in setting our sights higher: the human colonization of Mars. \nThis is an outstanding opportunity for underserved middle school students to experience the thrill of STEM learning and problem solving in an engaging and hands-on way through activities\, experiments\, projects\, and field experiences centered on the theme of Mars exploration and colonization. Each day\, campers will attend classes incorporating biology\, chemistry\, physics\, environmental sciences\, earth sciences\, engineering\, technology\, design concepts\, and field excursions around this theme. Certified classroom teachers and university faculty will teach all classes. Character development and team work\, necessary for successful STEM careers\, will also be infused throughout the camp activities.

SUMMARY:Squaw Valley Preparatory School"s Introduction to SHADES OF BLUE
DESCRIPTION:The Reno chapter of Shades of Blue\, in partner with the Reno Aviation Museum\, will be hosting 14 children from the Squaw Valley Preparatory School on June 3\, 2014. We will be meeting at the Reno/Stead Airport at 9 am\, where the children will be touring airplanes\, helicopters\, maintenance facilities and get an introductory class on flying airplanes. Joe Rajacic\, a Boeing 747-400 Captain for United Airlines\, will be discussing what it is like to work as an airline pilot to be followed by a question and answer period. Doug Ritter\, President of the Reno Aviation Museum\, will give a tour of his hanger and shop area to allow the students an up close and personal look at the various stages of airplane repair and restoration. There will also be a tour of the Reno Sheriff Department’s helicopter and maintenance base. To round out the morning many volunteers will be bringing their personal airplanes to allow the children to sit in the pilot seat and perhaps\, hopefully\, see way off into the future when their lives and a career in aviation will meet. \nOn behalf of Shades of Blue and the Reno Aviation Museum we look forward to a fun and instructive day for all.
